Stories Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Betfien Technologies ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use Stories (the "App") on Android and iOS. By using the App you agree to this policy.

Stories is a family reading app where children can read, listen to, and create illustrated stories, with a PIN-protected Parent Zone for grown-ups. Because Stories is used by children, we take particular care with the information we collect and how we use it, and we collect only what is needed to provide the experience.

Information we collect

• Account information — Examples: Email address, display name, and authentication identifiers (via Firebase Authentication, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In). Purpose: To create and secure the account, sign the parent in, and sync content across devices.
• Profiles — Examples: Child profile names, avatars, age band, and a parental PIN. Purpose: To personalize the experience per child and to gate the Parent Zone and controls.
• Reading & activity data — Examples: Stories opened, saved, and continued; listening progress; and in-app interactions. Purpose: To track progress, power Continue/Saved lists, and personalize recommendations.
• Content you create — Examples: Story text and prompts, drawings/coloring, and any images or audio saved to the device. Purpose: To let you create and keep stories. AI-assisted creation sends your prompt/content to our AI service to generate the result.
• Voice input — Examples: Speech captured when dictating a story. Purpose: Used for on-device speech recognition to turn speech into text. Speech is processed on the device and is not stored on our servers for this purpose.
• Subscription & coins — Examples: Whether an active subscription exists, its plan, and your in-app coin balance (via the app store and RevenueCat). Purpose: To unlock premium content and features. Payment card details are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play — we never receive or store them.
• Device & diagnostic data — Examples: Device model, OS version, app version, language, push token, and crash logs. Purpose: To deliver notifications, keep the app secure and stable, and fix problems.

Device permissions

The app requests the following permissions at the point of use. You can grant or revoke them at any time in your device settings; some features may not work without them.

• Microphone: To dictate a story using on-device speech recognition (only while you use that feature).
• Camera & Photos: To add an image to a story, and to save creations you choose to keep.
• Notifications: To send reading reminders and account updates you've opted into.

How we use your information

• Provide and personalize the reading and story-creation experience.
• Generate AI-assisted stories and illustrations from your prompts.
• Sync content and progress across your devices.
• Manage subscriptions and in-app coins.
• Keep the app secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.

How we share information

• We do not sell personal information, and we do not use children's information for behavioral or targeted advertising.
• We share data with the service providers listed below to operate the app.
• We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our users' rights and safety.

Service providers

We work with the following providers, who may process data on our behalf to operate the app:

• Google Firebase: Authentication, app integrity (App Check), push messaging, and diagnostics.
• Sign in with Apple & Google Sign-In: Optional social sign-in for the parent account.
• RevenueCat: Managing subscriptions and purchases (works with Apple/Google billing; no card data reaches us).
• Betfien AI services: Generating AI-assisted story text and illustrations from your prompts.
• Expo: Push notifications and over-the-air app updates.
• Betfien backend services: Storing account, profile, and content data to run the service.

Data retention

We keep account, profile, and content data while your account is active. After account deletion we delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, subject to limited backup and legal retention windows. Voice used for on-device recognition is not retained on our servers.

Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to promptly address any issues.

Children's privacy

Stories is intended to be used by children together with a parent or guardian, and it includes a PIN-protected Parent Zone. We are committed to protecting children's privacy and complying with applicable laws, including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the app stores' families policies, and Quebec's Law 25. We do not use children's personal information for behavioral or targeted advertising, and we do not sell it — we collect only what is needed to provide the experience. A parent or guardian can review their child's information, request corrections, and request deletion of the account and associated data by contacting us at the address below.

AI-assisted content

When you use AI-assisted creation, the prompt and any content you provide are sent to our AI service to generate a story or illustration, then returned to the app. AI-generated output can be imperfect; a parent or guardian should review content created for or by a child. Do not enter sensitive personal information into prompts.

Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law (including Canada's PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, and, where applicable, the EU/UK GDPR), you may:

• Access the personal information we hold about you and request a copy.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
• Withdraw consent or object to certain processing.
• Request portability of information you provided to us.

International users

We are based in Canada and may process and store information in Canada and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

Account & data deletion

You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time from within the app, or by emailing [email protected]. See the dedicated page: /apps/stories/delete-account. We will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal obligations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice within the app. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
